TURN UP UNFILTERED

Describe yourself in 3 words?
-Funny, Laid-back, Complex

NEMESIS’s lyrics are often very personal and precise. How do you go about reflecting and exploring the mood of what the band is trying to convey?
-We have been together for a long time. So while composing, we understand each other quite well and we agree on how the song should feel or tell a story.

Faced with the pandemic, people are more united than ever. The reassuring fuel within reminds us that we are not alone. This is only a phase and eventually, it will simmer. How are you coping this year with staying connected to creativity?
-This pandemic gave me the opportunity to become creatively lazy and fat. Haha! Jokes apart, I am always thinking of how to incorporate new techniques of bass playing in our compositions. And I also practice once in a while.

People call you ‘ The Groove Master’ - delivering solid grooves, fills and variations. It is all about THAT groove and bass.  What is your creative discovery as a composer while establishing the beat?
-Walking in between the notes and rhythms and connecting each and everything as smoothly as possible.

Bass and groove comes of age and has had an impact on the global music scene, leading to the popularity of genres such as metal, punk, reggae, funk, gospel, blues, hip-hop and jazz fusion etc. As an artist how important is it to evolve with time?
-I am constantly trying to improve my bass playing, developing new thoughts about new techniques. To me, if someone concentrates deeply into a subject, it's possible to find new perspectives to see it. Evolving is also a job requirement that everyone of us have to fulfil, because if one falls behind, everyone else will also be stuck and won't be able to move forward. So that's that!

Watching you play live is great, as you create your own zone - because not only are you nailing the perfect groove , you are also having a great time. What’s your craziest memory on stage?
-Nothing in particular, but the craziest shows would be Joy Bangla concerts, Nemesis solo shows and the shows where we all synced and performed our best.

We love your writing in ‘Dhushor Bhabona’. How much do you enjoy contributing to songs for Nemesis, as a writer?
-While making a song, it becomes a part of your thoughts every second of the day till it's finished. So writing the lyrics gives you an extra understanding and satisfaction, as to how you personally feel about that particular song. And surprisingly in Nemesis, everyone somehow syncs when it comes to how a song feels and what it should be about.

Finally, a  question about the upcoming solo music premiere of GONOJOWAR. Is there a track from GONOJOWAR that has made you push harder and go beyond your limits?
-Making new songs is always a challenge, and you find yourself pushing harder to do better. The album "Gonojowar" is full of such examples.
